AGRICULTURAL REGIONS IN THE WORLD
We have mentioned earlier about why agriculture is important and have listed some popular crops grown in the world based on region and quantity. This article is a continuation of the crops being grown across the world.
Crops production list by region –
The United States is the largest producer of Sorghum in the world and produces about 11.5 million metric tons of this cereal crop. It is grown and harvested in Colorado, South Dakota, Oklahoma, Texas and Kansas
India produces about 7.5 million metric tons of sorghum in the regions of Maharashtra and Karnataka
Nigeria also produces about 7.5 million metric tons of sorghum in Bauchi, Borno, Zamfara Yobe, Gombe, Adamawa, Kaduna, Jigawa, Niger, Kebbi, Taraba, Plateau, Sokoto, Katsina, and Nasarawa.
Mexico produces about 6.1 million metric tons of sorghum in the Bajio region
India is the leading producer of millet at 10910000 tons Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Maharashtra and Gujarat.
Nigeria follows behind at 5000000 tons of millet grown in Kaduna, Yobe, Kano and Borno states.
Niger is close behind at 2955000 tons millet being produced in the south
China produces about 1620000 tons of millets in the northern regions
Mali produces about 1152331 tons of millets in the Sahel region
Peanuts / Groundnuts –
China leads the world in the production of peanuts at 13.3 million metric tons grown in the provinces of Jiangsu, Shandong, Guangdong, and Henan.
India is the second largest producer of groundnuts at 7.1 million metric tons grown in the states of Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Orissa, Karnataka and Maharashtra
Nigeria is the largest producer of groundnuts in Africa at 2.7 million metric tons. It is grown in the states of Kano, Kaduna, Taraba, Bauchi, Bornu, and Adamawa.
The United States follows by 1.8 million metric tons of groundnuts grown in the states of Georgia, Florida, South and North Carolina, Texas, Mississippi, Virginia, Oklahoma, Arkansas, New Mexico, Louisiana, and Missouri
Sudan grows about 1.4 million metric tons of groundnuts in the eastern parts
Indonesia produces about 1.3 million metric tons of peanuts grown predominantly in east Java
Dry Beans –
Myanmar leads the world’s production of dry beans at about 3.8 million metric tons grown in Burma
India is second in the world in dry beans production and produces about 3.4 million metric tons grown in Jammu and Kashmir, Maharashtra, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka
Brazil produces about 3 million metric tons of dry beans in nearly every state
China produces about 1.4 million metric tons of dry beans in most regions
Mexico falls behind at 1.3 million metric tons of dry beans production that is grown throughout the country
Tanzania produces about 1.1 million metric tons of dry beans in the districts of Arusha, Moshi and Hai
The United States also produces about 1.1 million metric tons of dry beans grown in the Nebraska mostly
Canada is the world leader in rapeseed production at 15.5 million metric tons grown in the states of Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, British Columbia, Ontario and Quebec
It is followed by China at 14.8 million metric tons of rapeseed being grown along the Yangtze River valley
India is the third largest producer of the rapeseed in the world at about 7.9 million metric tons being grown in the states of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Haryana
Germany comes next at 6.2 million metric tons of rapeseed production along the Rhine River Valley
France is next at 5.5 million metric tons of rapeseed being grown all over the country
The United States produces about 27900 TMT of sugarcane in the states of Florida, Hawaii, Louisiana, and Texas
The Philippines produces about 31900 TMT of sugarcane grown in the Negros Island Region
Indonesia produces 33700 TMT of sugarcane in the region of Java
Colombia produces 34900 TMT of sugarcane in the Cauca river valley
Mexico produces 61200 TMT of sugarcane grown in the states of Veracruz, San Luis Potosi, Oaxaca, Chiapas, Nayarit, Tamaulipas, and Morelos
Pakistan produces 63800 TMT of sugarcane grown in Punjab and Sind regions

India is the second largest producer of sugarcane in the world at 341200 TMT in the states of Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, and Bihar
Brazil produces 739300 TMT of sugarcane and is the world leader. It is mostly grown in the south-central regions of Brazil

Ukraine is the world leader in the production of sunflower seeds at 11 million metric tons grown in Kirovograd, Kharkov and Dnepropetrovsk regions,
It is followed closely by Russia at 10.6 million metric tons of sunflower seeds grown in the Rostov region
Argentina is far behind at 3.1 million metric tons of sunflower seeds grown in Buenos Aires
China produces 2.4 million metric tons of sunflower seeds grown in the northern parts of the country
China leads in potato production at about 88.99 million metric tons of potatoes grown annually in northern parts of the country
India comes next at 45.34 million metric tons of potatoes grown in the western and central Indo-Gangetic plains of Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan
The Russian Federation grows about 30.20 million metric tons of potatoes in most parts of the country
Ukraine grows about 22.26 million metric tons of potatoes in the region of Polesye wetlands of the north
The United States produces about 19.84 million metric tons of potatoes in the states of Idaho and Washington
Germany produces about 9.67 million metric tons of potatoes that are grown in Bavaria predominantly
Bangladesh produces about 8.6 million metric tons of potatoes in the states of Rangpur and Bogra
